How it Works

Innovation with impact.

The Maryland Innovation Lab was inspired by L Marks’ award-winning Innovation Lab model, which boasts an industry-leading solution deployment rate of 78% and over $3.1Bn in funding raised across nearly 100 global programs. Through a proven and rigorously tested methodology, L Marks innovation specialists guide corporations on harnessing the power of startup collaborations to drive groundbreaking solutions, enhance efficiency, and stay ahead in competitive markets.

The Process

Corporate Partners Committed.

Shortly after announcing the industry focus for an upcoming Lab, the partners meet with potential corporate participants to identify innovation goals and secure commitments. Companies must be approved to join and are required to pay a participation fee, with costs largely subsidized by the Maryland Department of Commerce.

Identify Challenges.

L Marks collaborates with the cohort of Maryland companies from the targeted industry sector to pinpoint critical problem areas for Lab themes. Corporates may have individual problems or ones that overlap with others in the cohort.

Scout Global Startups.

L Marks scouts and recruits top-tier global startups that offer innovative solutions to the identified challenges. Startups are vetted and scored on The Bridge, L Marks proprietary innovation platform.

Accelerate Solutions.

Innovative startups from around the world compete for an invitation to Pitch Day in Baltimore. Winning startups, selected by corporate participants, earn a spot in the 10-week solution validation sprint. During this time, they work closely with Maryland companies to pilot solutions and forming lasting partnerships.

Achieve Results. Deploy.

The program concludes with a celebratory Demo Day, where startups present their achievements and insights from the Lab, showcasing the value of their solutions.
